15-01-2015 [[DDE KASHMIR UNIVERSITY ]] B.Ed (Distance) results would be declared within a week: Examination Controller - Flood affected B.Ed results on anvil - ‘Retrieving 2400 answer scripts proved time-consuming’ via #jkupdatez The much awaited result of annual examination of Bachelor of Education (distance mode) 2014, which was the only major exam of Kashmir University affected by September floods, is being announced in a week’s time, the officials said. Last year’s floods had severely impacted the examination as the rising waters had made their entry into several buildings in which the examination stationery was kept. Via #universityupdates24x7 Prof A S Bhat, Controller of Examinations, KU said: This was the only major examination that was affected by the deluge. Besides unattempted question papers, around 2400 answer scripts were also damaged in these floods. We had never been confronted with such situation. The university was confronted with two choices; either to go for new exams or find ways to save a precious year of thousands of students. Bhat said: We decided against conducting new exams and put our entire effort in salvaging the answer scripts. We sun-dried these papers for around a week. We cleaned them and with the result we could retrieve 2300 plus answer scripts. In these scripts the readability was almost good. #kmrresults The answer scripts were later sent to evaluators who had hard time marking the papers. He said: If an evaluator finished the marking in two days, here he had to spend weeks in marking them. We didnt want any injustice with students so we asked evaluators to take your time. Regarding the remaining answer scripts numbering around 50, we got hold of their old records. We tallied their roll numbers, verified their answer scripts and managing their marking after much efforts. The examination was held in August 2014 and students had been complaining of inordinate delay in declaration of the results. Bhat said that results are now in final stages and would be declared within a week. We had to ensure justice with everybody and in these extraordinary circumstances it took time, said Bhat. Around 5000 students had appeared in the examinations.
