15 / Sep / 2013 Chinese company to review Aynak copper contract, Logar province: The Afghan Government is trying to sign contracts covering existing mines in the country with different International mining companies. The process began in 2008, when Afghanistan’s biggest copper mine contract was signed with a Chinese company (MCC) and after that the other small and mid-sized mining contracts were signed with other Indian and Canadian companies. The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, Mohammad Rafi Rafiq Sediqi, said, “The Chinese MCC company has demanded a review of the biggest copper mine called (Mess Aynak) and those four important articles of the contract that were the reason for their winning the contract must be deleted from the contractual context.” He said, “Afghanistan is trying to resolve the issue and based on the law the winner of the contract must meet all the requirements and abide by the articles of the contract under the law.” Earlier the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum strongly criticized the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce for poor monitoring and evaluation of another Chinese company which had won the contract for extraction of Qishqari Oil and Gas of Amu Basin River. The Chinese company has not fulfilled its commitment to build a refinery operation in Sari-Pol Province.
