1599 GENEVA BIBLE PRAYER INSTRUCTIONS by Luis Ewing “And when thou prayest, be not as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the Synagogues, and in the corners of of the streets, because they would be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.” Mathew 6:5 The 1599 Geneva Bible gives us instruction how to pray and states . . . “But when thou prayest, enter into thy chambers and when thou hast shut thy door, pray unto thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.” Mathew 6:6 “Also when ye pray, use no vain repetitions as the Heathen: for they think to be heard for their much babbling.” Mathew 6:7 The 1599 Geneva Bible further states . . . “After this manner therefore pray ye, . . . “. . . Our father which art in heaven, hallowed by thy name.” Mathew 6:9 “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done even in earth as it is in heaven. Mathew 6:10 “Give us this day our daily bread.” Mathew 6:11 “And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.” Mathew 6:12 “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.” Mathew 6:13 * * * “For if ye do forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Mathew 6:14 “But if ye do not forgive men their trespasses, no more will your father forgive you your trespasses.” Mathew 6:15 “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as much as is a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove: and nothing shall be impossible to you.” Mathew 17:20 ”Again, verily I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree in earth upon anything, whatsoever they shall desire, it shall be given them of my father which is in heaven.” Mathew 18:19 “For where two or three are gather together in my Name, there I am in the midst of them.” Mathew 18:20 “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, if ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do that, which I have done to the fig tree, but also if ye say unto this mountain, Take thyself away, and cast thyself into the sea, it shall be done.” Mathew 21:21 “And whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, if ye believe, ye shall receive it.” Mathew 21:22 “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and ye shall find: knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Luke 11:9 “For everyone that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. Luke 11:10 “And whatsoever ye ask in my Name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:13 “If ye shall ask anything in my Name, I will do it.” John 14:15 “And in that day shall ye ask me nothing. Verily, verily I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my Name, he will give it you.” John 16:23 “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my Name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” John 16:24 “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.” Colossians 4:2; “Praying also for us, that God may open unto us the door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ: wherefore I am also in bonds.” Colossians 4:3 “We give God thanks always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers.” Thessalonians 1:2; “Furthermore, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free passage and be glorified, even as it is with you.” 2 Thessalonians 3:1; “And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and evil men: for all men have not faith.” 2 Thessalonians 3:2; “But the Lord is faithful, which will stablish you, and keep you from evil.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3. “If my people, among whom my Name is called upon, do humble themselves, and pray and seek my presence, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear in heaven and be merciful to their sin, and will heal their land: .” 2 Chronicles 7:14. “Then my eyes shall be open and mine ears attent unto the prayer made in this place.” 2 Chronicles 7:15
