15Jan2015 - Liams chemotherapy continued today. One of the anti-nausea meds has him a little amped up, but it has been a good day. Liam met with the same Physical Therapist he had seen back in August/September. She was pleased with how much difference she saw in his ability to move his body. Its easy for me to forget how far we have come on this journey because Im with him every day and progress with kids can happen in such small increments that nothing seems to change. But the perspective of a professional who essentially had taken a mental snapshot last fall and was taking a new January snapshot was a great reminder of just how much progress we have made. The physical therapists visit did come with a warning that Stem Cell Transplant is likely to be very challenging from a motor skills perspective, much harder than she thought I might have anticipated. So, he will be followed by PT twice a week until they see a dramatic change and then they will increase the amount of therapy time. A Child Life specialist also came to play with Liam today. She gave me the opportunity to have an hour of Liam-awake time to be by myself. What a gift for this introvert! I came back from that hour feeling completely refreshed and recharged. Liam and I had a great time playing with Play-Doh and playing with Connect4 pieces (filling the grid, dumping the pieces, sorting by color). Liam has eaten really well today! Tonight we had a lot of fun dancing. We sang loudly as we danced, enjoying the music and the movement with lots of smiles. Last nights sleep was regularly punctuated with the beeping of a chemo pump because one of his medications frequently has bubbles that enter the tube. The pump recognizes the bubbles as Air-In-Line and then loudly beeps to alert people to action. It would be WONDERFUL if the medication and the pump were able to work quietly tonight. As I often remind my kids, God gives sleep to those He loves. Im standing on that promise for rest tonight. Prayer Requests: 1) Continued appetite and minimal side effects (mucositis, nausea, hearing loss) from conditioning chemotherapy 2) More dancing and merriment tomorrow 3) Sleep tonight!
