Details: Early Warning Network: ewn.au NSW Severe Weather Warning: Damaging Winds for people in the Illawarra and South Coast forecast districts Issued at 4:30 pm EST on Saturday 16 August 2014. DAMAGING WINDS AND DANGEROUS SURF FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON. Weather Situation A low currently over northwest NSW is expected to move slowly east and deepen into a complex low pressure system off the central parts of the NSW coast on Sunday afternoon. Uncertainty remains as to the position and strength of this low on Sunday afternoon, with the Illawarra and adjacent parts of the South Coast district most likely to experience gale force winds and damaging surf in a south to southeasterly airstream associated with the low. Damaging winds around 65 km/h with peak gusts of 90 km/h are forecast for coastal parts of the Illawarra and South Coast forecast districts, expected to develop Sunday afternoon. Dangerous surf with significant wave heights 4 to 5 metres expected to develop later Sunday afternoon or evening. Large and powerful surf conditions in the evening are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, swimming and surfing. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
