Details: Early Warning Network: ewn.au NSW Severe Weather Warning: Damaging Winds for people in the Hunter, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains forecast districts Issued at 4:36 pm EST on Tuesday 8 July 2014. LOCALISED GALE FORCE WINDS POSSIBLE FOR THE SOUTHEAST THIRD OF NSW. Weather Situation A strong cold front will cross NSW during Wednesday, moving through the southeast in the afternoon, then the central ranges and central part of coast late in the day and early evening. Northwest winds are expected to increase about the far southern ranges tonight or early Wednesday morning ahead of the front, reaching gale-force about higher parts and more likely about the peaks. Localised gale-force winds are also considered possible with the passage of the front Wednesday afternoon and evening over some districts in the southeastern third of the state. Damaging winds averaging around 60 km/h with gusts of 100 km/h are forecast to develop for higher parts of the Snowy Mountains forecast district, above approximately 1500 metres, tonight or early Wednesday morning. Alpine Peaks may experience winds around 80 km/h with peak gusts of 125 km/h. Localised damaging winds averaging 60 to 65 km/h with gusts of 90 km/h are also possible for the Hunter, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, and the Snowy Mountains forecast districts Wednesday afternoon and evening. Blizzard conditions are forecast to develop Wednesday morning in areas above about 1500 metres, and extend to lower levels during the day. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
