16.5 years ago I met this girl. 15.5 years ago I took Angie Gottlieb to Eskimo Joes on our first date. It was Swing Dance Lesson Night and she of course ordered a Dr. Pepper, and no, we did not dance. 14 years ago on this hot August night in Ponca City, Oklahoma, this lil Drumright Tornado said I do. We started out in Edmond,OK. With no money and merely hope. She waited tables at Shorty Smalls while I worked out and filled in on local radio. A 4 point student following me and my hoop dreams instead of pursuing her own. Went to Salina,KS for a week. Then to Perm, Russia for 7 months, then back to Stillwater.From Stillwater we traveled to Raanana,Israel then back to OKC. After a year in OKC we moved to Burlington,CT then to Canton. Two years ago we came back to Orange County (Irvine,CA then Newport Beach) and next week we move back to Connecticut. Angie hates to move, has done just about everyone by herself and yet she is amazing at unpacking and making each place home. 8 Years ago she gave birth to our twin girls. 5 years ago she gave me my lil man. Today we are celebrating 14 years of marriage. As my friend Pete Gianesini once told me I dont know what the over/under is, but we both clearly hit the over. Marriage is a partnership in the journey of life and there is no one who I would rather experience it with than Angie D. Gottlieb. If you look at the pictures below you will notice that she simply doesnt age. What is the secret to lasting this long? I have found that 8 hours a night (for her) and an iced venti non-fat chai usually do that trick. She is not perfect, nor am I. She has hit 3 different garage doors, all of which were too small for her car. She fails repeatedly to put a new roll of TP to replace the used ones and that same TP act as her tissues, not actual tissues (I think it is a Collier thing). Cooking, like eating, isnt really her thing and dont even try and tickle her, she hates it. Seriously. On the other hand, she loves me, our kids, her friends and warm weather (especially the Orange County variety). If it there is a small critter she has probably nursed it back to health or owned one as a pet. Her house is operating room clean. She legitimately cares about people and their feelings and I have never met anyone who did not like Angie. Not once. Thank you for 16 years of love and friendship, 14 years of marriage, 3 amazing kids and hundreds of stories to share with them about our life together. Here is to 50 more, years of marriage, not moves.
