16 December 2014. After the ceremony to keep the Vow at the Voortrekker Monument in the morning, some of us, notably the Silent Soldiers and other former SADF soldiers, came together at the Wall of Remembrance. Honouring those who fell defending our people against terror and communism. Including our three friends Robert Beech, Dave Berry and John Wessels. Marked here with a poppy each. Who fought for Rhodesia and then, when Rhodesia was lost, for South Africa, which we lost too. But still they fought, brave and loyal soldiers to the bitter end. They were killed on an impossibly difficult op north of the Limpopo. Mugabes henchmen hid their bodies somewhere in the bush. So now families and friends dont even have graves to go to. Only the Wall, so this is for them. But they do lie in Rhodesias soil, - the soil where they were born and grew up in and spent the happiest time of their short lives. Rest in Peace, Rob, Dave and John. Forever young. You suffered and gave your all for us. As God says through the words of the poet in the Final Inspection: ...Walk peacefully on Heavens streets, - Youve done your time in Hell. Keep us a place there, please. - Image thanks to Bjorn Pohlmann.
