16 GOVS ATTEND AMAECHI-LED NGF MEETING Category: News Published on Wednesday, 18 September 2013 05:00 Written by Fidelis Mac-Leva Hits: 1162 Sixteen governors attended a meeting convened yesterday by chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, in Abuja. This was the second meeting convened by Amaechi since his disputed election in May. The first meeting was called off just when the governors had convened, so as to attend an event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Last night’s meeting had started at 8pm, but Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso left at about 9pm and was closely followed by his Jigawa counterpart Sule Lamido five minutes later. The agenda of the meeting, which was still ongoing by press time, was not known but it was gathered that the crisis in the NGF as well as peer review matters were to be discussed. Governors in attendance include those of Rivers, Kano, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Oyo, Ogun, Jigawa, Osun, Ekiti and Adamawa, while those represented by their deputies were governors of Borno, Nasarawa and Edo. Amaechi’s leadership of the forum is being challenged by other governors who back a faction headed by Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang. The Jang faction also enjoys the support of President Goodluck Jonathan and the Bamanga Tukur-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Amaechi is among the G-7 governors who broke away from the mainstream PDP to from the ‘New PDP’ led by Abubakar Baraje. Daily Trust
