16 organisations/events receive assistance through Community Initiative Program At its September meeting, Liverpool Plains Shire Council (LPSC) considered a number of applications for funding through its Community Initiative Program, designed to provide seed funding to local organisations to foster development of Educational/Environmental, Sporting, Community Organised and Art/Cultural events throughout the Shire. According to the Chair of LPSC’s Community Services Committee, Councillor Mary Roberts, it is amazing the number of events that local volunteers organise and which help enrich the lifestyle of Shire residents. She said that while Council’s budget for the Community Initiative Program is modest Councillors try to facilitate some assistance for as many events as possible. Successful applicants in the current round are: • $500 for Council to acquire an artwork from the Blackville Arts and Market Day Committee at what will be their 18th annual event. Funds raised at the event will assist Blackville Public School and the Eloura Aged Care facility. • $238 to waive hiring fees by Willow Tree Public School for use of the Willow Tree Recreation Ground. It was acknowledged that the school has previously raised funds to undertake work at the Ground. • $150 towards Quirindi High School’s annual presentation night. Council also resolved to provide $50 to each of the 9 other schools in the Shire towards their own similar events. • $150 to Wallabadah Jockey Club towards the staging of their historic New Year’s Day race meeting. • In-kind support will be offered to Werris Creek Preschool towards their project to address issues with its sand pit play area. • $100 towards Pavilion hiring fee for Lifeline’s Suicide Awareness Program • $180 to waive hiring fee of Royal Theatre by Quirindi Quota Club. The Quota Club’s fund raising towards the Royal Theatre’s hearing-loop was acknowledged. “Due to limited resources budgeted for such initiatives Council cannot always fully fund all requests it receives and it also considers funding previously provided to applicants in an attempt to find equity and to support as wide a scope of events as possible,” Councillor Roberts concluded.
