NEWCASTLE BRANCH LINE TRUNCATION / CLOSURE - A VERY SAD EVENT FOR NSW Late tonight a disgusting and somewhat sad moment in NSW transport history will occur, with the final departure of trains from a major NSW city railway station and followed soon after with the closure of 2 more stations. The city is Newcastle and the stations affected are Newcastle and Civic railway stations. LAST TRAINS OUT At 1124pm the last train according to this current timeframe of plans will depart Newcastle railway station .......a Hunter railmotor.... This will have been preceded at 1121pm by an electric interurban set train will be the last train of its type to leave the station. SO WHAT NOW? Come 0040hrs 26 December 2014, Newcastle and Civic will be closed to all rail traffic according to the NSW Liberal Govt. Trackwork will then proceed for the next 8 days or so to upgrade the line for remodelling of Hamilton station while Wickham station is turned into the new terminus of Newcastle over the next year or so........ This upgrade to start tomorrow......will see 700m of overhead electric wiring from Wickham towards Newcastle it seems taken down and removed. This will cut all electric trains into the town and diesel too if track work is putting stop blocks in. WHO CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN? The current NSW Premier a Liberal Party member.....Mike Baird has allowed this closure to happen, with many people suggesting that closure is very much linked to developers wanting to use the railway land for expansion plans in Newcastle. But people need to remember that the NSW ALP also wanted the line closed not too long ago also... so both parties can not be claiming to be friends of the NSW public too much.... but both can be seen to be aiming to taking away public transport......... Did you know the current NSW Govt plans to replace 179 trains into Newcastle on a daily basis.................... with up to 310 buses it has been reported from Wickham in the future.... Some people suggest that is an absolute waste. Did you know the NSW Govt is planning to waste $340m of taxpayers money on this truncation, while other NSW issues require more money such as fire stations, hospitals and schools.... some suggest the NSW Liberals are literally wasting money on a truncation for nothing. ..... Did you know that on past New years eve up to 15,000 people can descend upon Newcastle for events. If by going on the above plans...around 310 buses will move all of these people in and out of Newcastle?.... A 8 carriage train can carry close to 800-1100 if properly used in one go... a few trains would move these crowd numbers quicker .... while some suggest buses will see many left waiting and waiting.....Is this potentially poor planning? Newcastles 1850 era rail heritage is coming to an end many suggest....so we have to remember it by photos... The 2nd last photo shows the sun setting on Newcastle station, a tragic outcome. The last photo will show what we can expect to see Newcastle looking like as of tomorrow..... vacant, looming vandalism / destruction and empty.
