16 weeks into Ironman training and the wheels fell off. Yesterday - TopicsExpress

16 weeks into Ironman training and the wheels fell off. Yesterday I made the decision to cancel my trip to Canada to participate in the Calgary half Ironman, only to come to my senses today and hastily reinstate travel reservations. Ive always had an over abundance of motivation and thats what got me started on this journey. Over the past number of weeks Ive missed workouts due to traveling, a beautiful baby being born (which I wouldnt have missed for the world!) some of the reasons were warranted, but unfortunately most of them were because of an excuse I found that talked me out of it. Yesterday was the turning point. My training consisted of a 90 minute bike ride followed by a 70 minute run. I wasnt looking forward to the workout, and even went so far as talking myself into if I dont find a pony-tail holder in my workout bag, Im not doing it. Well I found one floating in the bottom of my workout bag and I thought to myself damn it! I was over heated before I got on my bike and thought Id cool off during the ride around Lake Natoma, well that didnt happen. Instead it was a 44 minute pity party and a pep talk to talk myself out of and finding reasons why I shouldnt go to Calgary. What I found the most convincing was my motivation was completely gone, zilch. It didnt matter I rode around the lake at fast pace and motored up the hills, (the same hill when I first started where I would have to downshift and pedal my butt off to get up), my motivation tank was on empty. I am happy to say what a difference a day makes. I want to thank my husband for being patient with me in my craziness, and being supportive of my endeavors. He never gets frustrated with me and if he does, I would never know it. I love him with all my heart. And, I want to thank my family and my friends, you all know who you are and you all mean the world to me.
