16 year Lily Marie Lopez lost a younger sibling to cancer in 2004. In 2009 Lily was diagnosed with High-Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and doctors gave her only a 35% percent of surviving. It’s been (3) three long years of chemo therapies and last month she received the last chemotherapy treatment. That same day the doctors told us that Lily was in remission. Lily mission and goal is to bring the 1st Annual St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Trail Ride to raise money to help St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Lily is asking for you, local businesses and organizations in Cameron County and surrounding communities to please help her with her mission. Please see below for additional information on the event. St. Jude Children’s Hospital through the “Saddle Up for St. Jude” program, will host its First Annual Trail Ride on November 23, 2013. It will be in Cameron County at La Chachalaca Ranch and Stables, 7600 Southmost Rd, Brownsville, TX. The event will begin at 1 pm. There will be various family activities held throughout the day besides horseback riding and a barbecue dinner will be served after the trail ride. A minimum $10 donation per person will be accepted to benefit St. Jude’s Hospital. Other items will be for sale including event t-shirts and homemade baked goods. All proceeds will go directly to St. Jude’s Hospital. Each year, families, riding enthusiasts and people dedicated to helping children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases across the United States host Saddle up for St. Jude trail rides. Lily- is proud to be bringing this event to Brownsville, Texas at her family’s ranch. Event organizers are hoping to raise $5,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which provides complete and total medical care to more than 260 children daily. St. Jude’s Hospital says, “No family ever pays St. Jude for anything. But the healing does not stop there. Over the years, our researchers have developed many successful treatments that are being used by hospitals and institutions worldwide to save the lives of children everywhere. This is all made possible because of the volunteers throughout this country who have joined St. Jude in the battle against childhood cancer and other deadly diseases.” While the family of Lily Marie will host the event on their property, they rely on help from a lot of friends, local businesses and organizations in Cameron County and surrounding communities to donate supplies, labor and money to help cover expenses and there’s always room for more donations and volunteers to help staff the event.
