16th December, 2014 Photos of Tavui Primary School in the picturesque Rabaul, East New Britain. Taken during the visit by Members of Parliament, Sitting Rabaul Open Member, Hon. Dr Allan Marat and Open Member for Vanimo Green, Hon. Belden Norman Namah who accompanied Dr Marat upon his invitation. Tavui Primary (formerly Tavui Community School) is the second oldest school established in the district and is the foundation of Dr Marats educational history. The Rabaul Open Member completed his Primary schooling here; form 1-6 from 1960-1966 continuing onto Kerevat high School and Sogeri National High in 1967 and completion in 1972. His Tertiary Education was done at the University of Papua New Guinea in 1973-1976 where he took up studies in Law and then at the Legal Training Institute in 1978. Dr Marat was then the first Papua New Guinean to be enrolled at New Zealand University, Auckland, where he undertook his Masters in Law, 1981 and again the first Papua New Guinean to attain a Doctorate of Philosophy in Law at the Oxford University, United Kingdom in 1988. He then went into politics thereon being elected into 7th Parliament as the Honorable Member of Parliament for Rabaul Open in 2002 under the Peoples Progress Party, then as the Party Leader. Since then the Honorable Member has been Deputy Prime Minister in 2002 under the Somare Government and two times Minister for Justice and Attorney General first under the Somare-Temu Cabinet in 2007 and then in 2011 in the ONeill-Namah Cabinet. Dr Marat then founded the Melanesian Liberal Party in 2007 before the General Elections.
