17 October 2014 (Thailand: Khao Dinsor on Friday) - moderate - TopicsExpress

17 October 2014 (Thailand: Khao Dinsor on Friday) - moderate (10-25km/hr) winds from the northeast have been pushing in humid air - making the air hazy, and the visibility particularly not optimal. But with Rongrong Angkaew and Thitisan Nakavirod counting at Shelter 3, and Werat Kaewklam, Daniel of France and even Henk Smit of Holland up at the top platform...we had a good day. I should also mention that Mor Wiroj and a contingent of Thai photographers and birders were at Platform 1...so I will try and do a photographic summary for everyone. First, perhaps the most significant bird of the day came through very low in the late morning - a juvenile Bonellis Eagle (see photo) identified by Martti Siponen of Finland. Bonellis are extremely rare here so we include the so-so photo to show we actually saw the bird...because pretty much everyone at Khao Dinsor missed this bird today. Other notable birds included t least three Jerdons Bazas (no one got good photos so none are presented) - and a lot of Grey-faced Buzzards (see photos) and Black Bazas (no good photos). However, I do have a few images of what to me are the Besra..the first two show the upper and under side of the same bird. A second juvenile is also included for comparison...Attached photos of other Accipiters...as well as Pacific (Fork-tailed) Swift and Red-rumped Swallow.
