17 years ago I was introduced to a warm and friendly individual. Little did I know that she would become my closest confidant, encourager and arguably one of the most beautiful souls I have ever and possibly will ever know. She was a larger than life character and gifted individual, who touched deeply every person she encountered. She was witty, funny, intelligent, intense, sassy, stubborn, caring, helpful, and altogether lovely. She was a true friend and in many respects, she lay down her life for us. She was one of the few people I know who gave her strength to others out of weakness. She offered laughter to others while she was weeping, joy when she was in sorrow, comfort when she was in distress, and hope & help out of her own hopelessness and helplessness. This friend of mine is now no more…..To say I am gutted is an understatement. I always took it for granted that she would live to a good old age. I am shell shocked and deeply saddened. I still can’t believe that she is gone and my life will most certainly be somewhat bleaker for her absence. Whilst I cannot for the life of me understand why she passed so soon, I understand why she lived, and she left a legacy of love in our lives and in our hearts. We (her friends) will not get over her passing for a long long time to come. Abi was a facilitator and enabler of the destinies, dreams, and aspirations of others and we miss her terribly. Our lives will most definitely never be the same with out her So with a saddened heart and great gratitude for the privilege of encountering such a beautiful soul, I thank God as I remember the person of Abiola Adekunle (1968 – 2014), a very special friend. Gone but never to be forgotten.
