17 yr old Rio Grande broodmare (Raphaella) and 4 month old filly - TopicsExpress

17 yr old Rio Grande broodmare (Raphaella) and 4 month old filly (Phaeda) by Viva Voltaire. I am downsizing and not going to stay in breeding due to work demands. Unfortunately, my riding horses are very aggressive with Raphaella and her foal so I have to keep separating them. About 2 months ago my geldings chased Raphaella into a fence post and she suffered a shoulder injury... the vet said she needs a few months of stall rest and is now bearing weight and slowly improving. Because of stall rest she is losing conditioning and her foal is frustrated (she loves to run). Im going to have to wean a little earlier due to these issues and long term our home is no longer best for Raphaella since I do not have other quiet natured mares/companions for her. We have an open concept stable where the horses can come and go so its difficult to have one horse blocked out from the others and Raphaella wants to be with the herd but they block her from water/food/stable and gates (its very frustrating and anything I do to fix it is not working since Raphaella is very low in the pecking order here... even the pony will chase her away). Raphaellas foal is by Viva Voltaire, beautiful filly born in May. Under breeder contract I can rehome Raphaella (who can still be rebred in Spring after she recovers) but I cannot take payment for her. Im willing to take a low price for her foal if she can stay with her mom (since shes still nursing and Id rather see them go together). Im really sad to be in this position as I love Raphaella and Phaedra but I want them to be happy! Please contact me if you have any questions or are interested.
