175 yrs ago fight #AgainstSlavery had begun - in 2014 #Mandatory #HelpToWork #workfare began #Thunderclap Show your support against all forms of #slavery - if you are on Twitter Thunderclap & share with friends on Facebook 175 years ago the Anti-Slavery Society – later to become Anti-Slavery International – was founded to work against all forms of slavery around the world. The organisation was founded in April 1839 following the first successful public campaign – one to stop the Transatlantic Slave Trade and abolish slavery in the #British colonies in America and the Caribbean. That campaign succeeded against all the odds and those campaigners remain the inspiration for campaigners against slavery today. It is outrageous that 175 years on there is still a need for an organisation fighting slavery. But over 20 million people remain enslaved today so as long slavery still exists we will continue to support and empower people vulnerable to slavery so they can stand up for themselves and take control of their own lives.
