17th & 18th August 2013 - Monsoon Series Part 2 by Chris Dando Ideal sailing conditions greeted the competitors on Saturday for the second weekend of the Monsoon Series. The first race got underway in around 12 knots of wind with Christian building a good lead up the first windward leg. Chris rounded the windward mark in second, and the proceeded to whittle down the gap to the leader. The second reach was ideal for the Lasers and was a flat out planing leg on which Chris just managed to get ahead by the leeward mark. With the wind increasing, Christian used his extra speed on the windward beat with Chris forcing him to go further than intended before tacking out to the mark. Although Christian was in the lead at the last windward mark, Chris was close enough to be a threat, and Christian duly obliged by touching the windward mark, leaving Chris to take the first race of the weekend. With the wind increasing up to 18 knots, the radials chosen by Charlie and Christoph came into there own in the following two races. Charlie scoring two second places behind Christian and Christoph respectively, to give three different winners for the day. On Sunday it initially looked as if the wind would be similar to Saturday. However instead of increasing, if anything it dropped slightly to hand the advantage back from the radial sailors to anyone with a standard rig. Chris took full advantage in all three races to score three wins, with Christoph managing to salvage two seconds in the first two races in the tricky conditions, before Scott sailed well to finish just behind Chris in the final race of the weekend.
