18.3.1 ᏩᏯ ᏚᎳᏑᏝ. 1. ᏌᏊ ᎢᏳᏩᎪᏘ ᏩᏯ ᏚᎳᏑᏟ ᎨᏎ. (a) One time Wolf was a wearer of shoes. 2. ᏥᏍᏚ ᏌᎶᎵᏃ ᏚᏃᏞ ᎤᏪᏴ ᎾᎥ ᎠᏂᏬᏂᏍᎨᏃ ᎦᏬᏂᏓ. (a) Rabbit and Squirrel were sitting near a river and they were speaking gossip. 3. ᏃᏊ ᏍᎩᎾ ᏥᏍᏚ Ꮭ ᎤᏍᏗ ᎤᏁᎦ ᏱᎨᏎ. ᏥᏍᏚ ᎡᏆ ᎤᏬᏗᎨ ᎨᏎ. ᏍᏊᏃ ᎤᎸᏉᏕ ᏕᎦᎶᎾᏍᏗᏍᎪᎢ. (a) Now that rabbit was not a small white rabbit. He was a large brown rabbit. And also he liked to trick everyone. 4. ᎾᎯᏳ ᏥᏍᏚ ᏌᎶᎵᏃ ᏙᏯ ᏚᏂᎪᎮ. (a) Then Rabbit and Squirrel saw Beaver. 5. ᏃᏊ ᏙᏯ ᏥᏍᏚ ᏌᎶᎵᏃ ᏗᏜ ᎠᏯᏄᎵ ᎡᎨ ᎨᏡᎲᏍᎨᏃ “Ꭷ! Ꮒ!”. (a) Now Beaver was going fast towards Rabbit and Squirrel yelling “Hey! Look!” 6. ᏥᏍᏚ ᎤᏛᏛᏁ, “ᎦᏙ ᎤᏍᏗ? ᎪᎱᏍᏗᏍ ᎤᎿ ᏌᎶᎵ ᎣᎩᏂᎪᏩᏛᏗ?” (a) Rabbit asked, “Whats is it? Is something there that Squirrel and I need to see?” 7. ᏙᏯ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᎪᎱᏍᏗ ᎢᏤ ᎤᏪᏴ ᎾᎥ!” (a) Beaver said, “Something new is near the river!” 8. ᏙᏯ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᎢᏕᎾ ᎠᎴ ᎢᏗᎪᏩᏔ!” (a) Beaver said, “Let us go and see!” 9. ᎾᎯᏳ ᏥᏍᏚ, ᏌᎶᎵ, ᏙᏯᏃ ᎤᏪᏴ ᏗᏜ ᎤᏁᏅᏎ. (a) Then Rabbit, Squirrel, and Beaver went towards the river. 10. ᏃᏊ ᏩᏯ ᎾᎥ ᎨᏎ ᎠᎴ ᏚᎪᎮ. (a) Now Wolf was near and saw them. 11. ᎾᎯᏳ ᏩᏯ ᎤᏛᏛᏁ, “Ꭷ! ᎦᏙ ᎢᏣᏛᏁ?” (a) Then Wolf asked, “Hi! What are yall doing?” 12. ᏥᏍᏚ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᎪᎱᏍᏗ ᎢᏤ ᎤᏪᏴ ᎾᎥ! ᎤᎿ ᎣᏤᎦ. ᏣᎪᏩᏛᏗᏧ ᏣᏚᎵ ᏍᏊ? ᎣᎩᎪᏩᏛᏗ ᎣᎦᏚᎵ.” (a) Rabbit said, “Something new is by the river! They and I are going there. You want to see it too dont you? They and I want to see it.” 13. ᎾᎯᏳ ᏩᏯ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᏓᏯᏇᏅᏏ ᏍᏊ. ᎥᏍᎩ ᎠᎪᏩᏛᏗ ᎠᏆᏚᎵ.” (a) Then Wolf said, “I will go also. I want to see that.” 14. ᎾᎯᏳᏃ ᎤᏪᏴ ᏚᏁᏅᏎ. (a) And then to the river they went. 15. ᏙᏯᏃ ᏂᎦᏓ ᏚᏘᏅᏎ ᎤᏣᏘ ᎦᏄᎸ ᏗᏜ ᎠᎴ ᏚᏂᎪᏩᏛᏔᏅ. (a) And Beaver led everyone towards a lot of grass and showed it to everyone. 16. ᏩᏯ ᎤᏩᏅᎨ. ᏩᏯ ᎤᎵᏍᎨᏓ ᎨᏎ. ᎢᎬᏱ ᎤᏪᏅᏎ. ᎬᏩᏚᏫᏓ ᎤᎵᏒᏍᏔᏁ. (a) Wolf was in a hurry. Wolf was important. First he went. All around he sniffed it. 17. ᏩᏯ ᎤᏰᎶᎢᏍᏗ ᎤᎴᏫᏍᏔᏁ, ᎤᏛᏁᏃ, “ᎯᎠ ᎪᎵᎦ! ᎯᎠ ᎠᎳᏑᎶ!”. (a) Wolf suddenly stopped and said, “I know this! This is a shoe!” 18. “ᎠᎳᏑᎶ?”, ᏂᎦᏓ ᎤᎾᏛᏁ. (a) “A-shoe?”, everyone they-said. 19. ᏩᏯ ᎤᏬᎯᎵᏴᏎ, “ᎥᎥ, ᎠᎳᏑᎶ, ᎠᏂᏴᏫ ᏗᏩᏂᎨ ᎠᎴ ᏧᎾᎵᏍᏗ! ᏗᎳᏑᎶ ᏓᏅᏗ.” (a) Wolf answered, “yes, a-shoe, people-humans they-are-soft and they-are-weak! Shoes, they-use-them.” 20. ᏥᏍᏚ ᎤᏓᏅᏖᏞ, “Ꮭ ᏳᏅᏔ.” ᎤᏓᏅᏖᏞᏃ, “ᎠᏆᏅᏔ. ᎥᏍᎩᎾ ᏌᏛᏗ!”. (a) Rabbit he-thought, “No not-he-knows-it.” he-thought-and, “I-know-it. That a-trap!”. 21. ᎤᏓᏅᏖᏞᏃ, “ᎠᏆᏚᎵ ᏩᏯ ᎤᎶᎾᏍᏙᏗ ᎾᎯᏳᏃ ᎣᏍᏓ ᏛᎩᏰᏘᏏ!” (a) And he-thought, “I-am-wanting Wolf I-to-trick-him then-and good I-will-laugh!” 22. ᏥᏍᏚ ᏩᏯ ᎤᏛᏛᏁ, “ᎠᏎᏛ ᎯᎦᏖᏧ? ᏂᎯ ᏕᏣᎳᏑᏝ.” (a) Rabbit Wolf he-asks-him, “Maybe you-know-how-yes? You-wearing-shoes.” 23. ᏩᏯ ᎤᏬᎯᎵᏴᏎ, “Ꭵ! ᏥᎦᏔ.” (a) Wolf he-answered, “Yes! I know how.” 24. ᏥᏍᏚ ᎤᏤᏥᏕ ᎤᏛᏁᏃ, “Ꮭ ᏯᏉᎯᏳ. Ꮭ ᏍᎩᎾ ᏱᏥᎪᏩᏘ. ᏂᎯ ᏕᏣᎳᏑᏝ! ᎠᏆᏅᏔ! ᏌᏊ ᎠᎳᏑᎶ ᎠᏂ! ᏣᎳᏑᏝ ᎯᏯᏎᎯᏏ!” (a) Rabbit he-grinned he-said-and, “Im not confident! I dont see that! you-wearing-shoes! I know! One shoe is here! You-wearing-a-shoe let-you-show-it!” 25. ᏩᏯ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᎰᏩ. ᏘᎪᏩᏛᏔᏂ. ᏛᏆᎳᏑᏟ.” (a) Wolf he-said, “OK. I-will-show-it. I-will-wear-a-show.” 26. ᏩᏯ ᎤᎳᏏᏕᏂ ᎤᎵᏔᏅ ᏍᎩᎾ ᏌᏛᏗ. ᏃᏊ ᏌᏛᏗ ᎤᎳᏏᏕᏂ ᎦᏂᏱᏍᎩ ᎨᏎ. ᎾᎯᏳᏃ ᏩᏯ ᎤᎩᏟᏲᏨ ᎠᏎᏃ ᎤᏩᏍᎦᎸᏁ. ᎤᏛᏁᏃ, “ᏚᎾᎳᏑᏝ ᎢᏳᏍᏗ ᎯᎠ!” (a) Wolf his-foot he-put-into-container that trap. Now the trap his-foot it-a-catcher it-was. And then Wolf he-felt-pain but he-hid-it. He said-and, “they-wearing-shoes like this!” 27. ᏥᏍᏚ ᎤᏔᎾ ᎤᏤᏥᏕ, ᎤᏛᏁᏃ, “ᏂᎯ ᎤᏬᏚᎯ ᏕᏣᎳᏑᏟ.” (a) Rabbit big he-grinned, he-said-and, “You are a pretty shoe wearer.” 28. ᏩᏯ ᎤᏛᏛᏁ, “ᎮᎵᏧ?” (a) Wolf asked, “You-think-yes?” 29. ᏥᏍᏚ ᎤᏟᏂᎩᏓ ᎤᏛᏁ, “Ꭵ!”, ᎤᏛᏁᏃ, “ᏃᏊ ᏌᏊ ᏐᎢ ᎣᏥᏩᏔ!” (a) Rabbit strongly he-said, “Yes!”, he-said-and, “Now One additional let-they-and-I-find-it!” 30. ᏩᏯ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᎰᏩ.” (a) Wolf he-said, “OK.” 31. ᎬᏩᏚᏫᏓ ᎤᏂᏃᎭᎵᏙᎴ ᎾᎯᏳ ᏙᏯ ᎤᏪᏡᏁ, ᎠᏛᏁᏃ, “Ꮒ! ᏌᏊ ᎠᎩᏪᏡᏅ! ᎠᎩᏪᏡᏅ!” (a) All-around they-hunted. then Beaver he-yelled, he-said-and, “Look! One I found it! I found it!” 32. ᏥᏍᏚ ᏌᎶᎵ ᏙᏯᏃ ᏚᎾᏛᏁ, “ᏕᏣᎳᏑᏞᏍᏗ! ᏕᏣᎳᏑᏞᏍᏗ! ᏕᏣᎳᏑᏞᏍᏗ!” (a) Rabbit, Squirrel, and Beaver they chanted (said-plural-acts), “Let-you-one-wear-shoes! Let-you-one-wear-shoes! Let-you-one-wear-shoes!” 33. ᏩᏯ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᎰᏩ.” (a) Wolf he-said, “OK.” 34. ᏩᏯ ᎤᎳᏏᏕᏂ ᎤᎵᏔᏁ Ꮎ ᏌᏛᏗ. ᎥᏍᎩᏃ ᏌᏛᏗ ᎤᎳᏏᏕᏂ ᎦᏂᏱᏍᎩ ᎨᏎ. ᏃᏊ ᏩᏯ ᎤᏔᎾ ᎤᎩᏟᏲᏨᎢ. (a) Wolf his-foot he-put-into-container that trap. That trap his-foot it-caught-it. Now Wolf big he-felt-pain. 35. ᏥᏍᏚ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᏂᎯ ᎤᏬᏚᎯ! ᏃᏊ ᏦᎢᏁ ᎣᏥᏩᏔ” (a) Rabbit he-said, “You are pretty! Now a-third-one we-not-you-find!” 36. ᏩᏯ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᎰᏩ.” (a) Wolf he-said-and, “OK.” 37. ᎬᏩᏚᏫᏓ ᎤᏂᏃᎭᎵᏙᎴ ᎾᎯᏳ ᏌᎶᎵ ᎤᏪᏡᏁ, ᎠᏛᏁᏃ, “Ꮒ! Ꮒ! ᎠᎭᏂ ᏐᎢ!” (a) All-around they-hunted then Squirrel he-yelled, he-said-and, “Look! Look! Here is another!” 38. ᏥᏍᏚ ᏌᎶᎵ ᏙᏯᏃ ᏚᎾᏛᏁ, “ᏕᏣᎳᏑᏞᏍᏗ! ᏕᏣᎳᏑᏞᏍᏗ! ᏕᏣᎳᏑᏞᏍᏗ!” (a) Rabbit, Squirrel, and Beaver they chanted (said-plural-acts), “Let-you-one-wear-shoes! Let-you-one-wear-shoes! Let-you-one-wear-shoes!” 39. ᏩᏯ ᎤᎳᏏᏕᏂ ᎤᎵᏔᏁ ᏍᎩᎾ ᏦᎢᏁ ᏌᏛᏗ. ᎾᎯᏳ ᏩᏯ Ꮩ ᎡᏆ ᎤᎩᏟᏲᏤ. (a) Wolf his-foot he-put-into-container that third trap. Then Wolf very big he-felt-pain. 40. Let-you-one-wear-shoes! Let-you-one-wear-shoes!” 43. ᏃᏊ ᏩᏯ Ꮩ ᎡᏆ ᎤᎩᏟᏲᏤ. “Ꮭ ᏓᏆᎳᏑᏟ ᏯᏆᏚᎵ”, ᎤᏓᏅᏖᏢᎢᏃ. ᎠᏎᏃ ᎦᏳᎳ ᏄᏛᏁᎴ ᏚᎳᏑᏝ. (a) now wolf very-big he-felt-pain. “not i-being-a-wearer-of-shoes i-wanting”, he-thought. but already he-did-it he-wearing-shoes. 44. “ᏌᏊᏊ ᏏᏊ.”, ᎤᏓᏅᏖᏞᏃ, “ᏌᏊᏊ ᏏᏊ.” (a) “just one more”. he-thought-and. “just one more”. 45. ᎠᎩᏟᏱ!” (a) Wolf yelled, “Agony! Agony! Let-you-all-help! Let-you-all-help! Agony!” 48. ᏂᎦᏓ ᎤᎾᎵᏍᏕᎸᎮ ᎾᎯᏳ ᏩᏯ ᎤᏛᏁ, “ᏩᏙ! ᏩᏙ! ᎥᏍᎩᎾ Ꮩ ᏧᏍᏗ ᏗᎳᏑᎶ!”.
