18 April 2014 Recently, I had a discussion with a friend who mentioned that many people in our modern world do not understand the meaning of “SACRIFICE” and, therefore, do not understand the necessity of the “SACRIFICE” of Jesus on the cross. For many, making a “SACRIFICE” means giving up the mobile phone or not eating meat or giving up a favorite television program. The idea of giving up life is totally foreign. About the closest most of us come to understanding the “SACRIFICE” of life is when someone is killed in the service of their country or in the “line of duty,” as might happen to a police officer or other public servant and I would never underestimate the loss felt by the families of such a one. But the idea of “SACRIFICE” as Jesus did on the cross for all of humanity is unreasonable to most. It seems that we have, as a society, lost the compassion that we once had and the value that we once placed on the lives of men. God, on the other hand, saw the ultimate value of humanity. Paul wrote, “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Notice again, “…WHILE WE WERE STILL SINNERS, CHRIST DIED FOR US.” He didn’t wait until we deserved to receive. Jesus died when we deserved nothing. Child of God, you are the recipient of the greatest gift that God could give: HIS SON. Your sins (past, present and future) have been paid for and the blood of Jesus has cleansed you from all unrighteousness. What you now possess is an “ENDLESS LIFE.” “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”
