18 August 1973: William Trevor Holland, 36-year-old Protestant civilian, married with 2 children was standing outside a café in the Edgarstown estate in Portadown, just before 1:00AM when he was shot by republicans, probably the IRA. Mr. Holland was standing alone at the café when shots were fired from a Hillman Imp car that was travelling from the direction of Loughgall. Mr. Holland was fatally wounded and taken to the Craigavon Area Hospital and died an hour later. Mr. Holland was a member of the Rising Sons of Portadown Orange Lodge and the St. Saviours Royal Black Preceptory. Two Portadown men were 2 days later charged with Mr. Hollands killing. The following year, both men from nationalist areas, were cleared of Mr. Hollands murder but were each sentenced to 7 years for his manslaughter. Both men were also given 4 years concurrent sentences for having an M1 carbine. Mr. Holland, his wife and 2 children, were living with his parents at Westland Road, Portadown. LEST WE FORGET!
