MONDAY, DEC. 22 FILM, INTERRUPTED: The next installment of Doug Bensons Movie Interruption is at Cinefamily on Monday at 7:30 pm with a screening of Renny Harlan’s 1996 film The Long Kiss Goodnight. Benson and his comedian friends take over the front couches of the theater and riff on the films as they play. Tickets: $14/free for members. MUSIC: On Monday night The Black and The White wraps up its music residency at the Bootleg Theater. The free show features a number of local bands including Irontom, MERCIES and Figs Vision. Ages 21+. 8:30 pm. BINGO: Selene Luna & Audrey DeLuxe co-host Brolesque Bingo on Monday night at Akbar. Join the “Bros of Burlesque” for an evening of fun and prizes that mashes up a burlesque stripease gameshow and bingo. The evening stars Love Connie, Kirby Labrea, Tito Bonito, Wes Would and Zachariah. $5 cover and $5 for each game card. HANUKKAH: On Monday at 8 pm, the LA Phil presents its next holiday concert, The Klezmatics: Happy Joyous Hanukkah. The band plays contemporary klezmer music that blends traditional klezmer music with Eastern European, Latin, Celtic, Afro-Caribbean and rootsy-folk influences. Tickets: $83-$105. If Latin sounds are more your style, on Tuesday night, the LA Phil welcomes Arturo Sandoval and his Big Band. SPEAKEASY: Expand Animal Rights Now (EARN) presents a Roaring ‘20s speakeasy soiree fundraiser to benefit animals at The Mint at 7:30 pm. The evening features performances by singer-songwriter Celeste Stoney, the 1920s cover band The Martini Kings and rapper Vegan Boss. Get dressed in ‘20s attire, play casino games and participate in a Charleston dance contest. Raffles, giveaways and a special vegan menu will be available. Tickets: $25-$30. 21+. MUSIC: On Monday night at 9 pm, Kissing Cousins—the LA-based all-girl band—wraps up its December residency at the Satellite. Also playing are The Bulls (Anna Bulbrook of The Airborne Toxic Event and guitarist Marc Sallis of The Duke Spirit), Vs Color and Western Bells. Free show. 21+. TUESDAY, DEC. 23 COMEDY: At the Hollywood Improv on Tuesday at 10 pm, Comedy Juice presents comedian Ben Gleib’s 10th Annual Egg Nog Lesson. Also on the bill is Chris DElia. This show is 18+. Two-item minimum. Tickets: $14. FILM: Cinefamily screens the Frank Capra classic It’s a Wonderful Life from Dec. 23-29. Watch Clarence get his wings on the big screen while George and Mary lasso the moon. (We love this movie!) Tuesday, Dec. 23: 7:30 pm Wednesday, Dec. 24: 4 pm, 7 pm, 9:50 pm Saturday, Dec. 27: 4 pm Monday, Dec. 29: 7:30 pm WEDNESDAY, DEC. 24 COMEDY: Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant presents Jokes for the Jews, “a comedy show for anyone who feels passed over on Christmas Eve” on Wednesday at 8 pm. Hosted by Joshua Snyder, the lineup includes Richy Leis, Adam Feuerberg, Jason Visenberg, Geoff Keith, Dana Eagle, Grant Cotter and a surprise special guest. Tickets: $12. Two-item minimum. Note: Flappers Comedy Club is not a kosher kitchen. VEGAN CHINESE FOOD: Mohawk Bend presents a special Vegan Chinese Food menu on Christmas Eve and will also screen a classic holiday film. The menu includes Spicy Green Beans, Kung Pao Tofu, Winter Spring Rolls, Lettuce Cups and Veggie Fried Rice. A limited pub menu will also be available. The party begins at 4 pm with the screening at 6 pm. Reservations accepted but not necessary. HOLIDAY: L.A. County’s 55th Annual Holiday Celebration takes place from 3-6 pm at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Entertainment on the Music Center plaza starts at 12:30 pm and doors to the Pavilion open at 2:30 pm with people queuing up much earlier. It’s a free concert with music and dance performances from more than 20 organizations and cultures from all over L.A. County. If you can’t make it Downtown, the celebration will be streamed live at pbssocal.org. THURSDAY, DEC. 25 MOVIES: When you get tired of eating, presents and family, here are the big films opening on Thursday: Unbroken, Into the Woods, Big Eyes, American Sniper, The Gambler and Selma. FRIDAY, DEC. 26 MUSIC: The Echo presents the beats and rhymes of Blackalicious on Friday night at the Echoplex with Daniel Bambaata Marley opening. 8:30 pm. Ages 18+. Tickets: $17-19. 70 MM FILM: On Friday night at 7:30 pm, American Cinematheque screens Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Vertigo with James Stewart and Kim Novak in 70mm at the Egyptian. On Saturday, the Cinematheque screens David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia with Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif at 7:30 pm. SATURDAY, DEC. 27 WALKING TOUR: On Saturday, the Japanese American National Museum presents a Little Tokyo Walking Tour from 10:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Learn about the neighborhood’s past, present and future in this leisurely two-hour walk led by JANM docents. Tickets: $12 members, $15 non-members (includes admission to Common Ground exhibition). The tours are held twice monthly, weather permitting. DANCE: Show Box L.A. presents L.A. choreographer Gregory Barnett’s latest work Edenic Idyllic: I Can Take You to Heaven, Let Me Take You to Heaven from Dec. 27-29, and Jan. 1-3, 2015. Two Schkapf performance spaces are transformed into an installation that is “part waiting room and part wonderland, and culminates with a series of one-on-one performances.” It’s inspired by the game inspired by the teen party game Seven Minutes in Heaven. Tickets are free and are scheduled by appointment at 4, 5 and 6 pm. SUNDAY, DEC. 28 COMEDY: It’s an evening of comedy at the Satellite on Sunday night with Neil Hamburger: Live Entertainment. Comedians on the bill include: Donny Divanian, Lou Sanders, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Andy Kindler, James Adomian and Hamburger himself. Doors: 8:30 pm, show: 9 pm. Ages 21+. Tickets: $8 in advance. DANCE: Dance off that eggnog and yule logs with the 80s Mixtape Dance Party featuring guest DJs Alex & Ray [Depeche Mode Convention] at The Echo on Sunday. 10 pm. Tickets: $5-8. Ages 18+.
