18 river-linking projects within Maharashtra get Central Water Commission nod The Central Water Commission (CWC) has approved 18 inter-river linking projects within Maharashtra, including Damanganga-Pinjal, which will reportedly fulfil the state’s drinking and industrial requirement. The CWC has given the go ahead to the draft Primary Project Report (PPR). Revenue minister Eknath Khadse in his reply to the two-day discussion on drought and farmers suicides raised by Congress legislator Manikrao Thakre in the Council House on Thursday said, “The state has proposed long-term solutions, including pushing forth the project for inter-linking of rivers.” Recently, a meeting of all state water resources ministers was held with Union minister for water resources Uma Bharti in New Delhi, where 18 proposals related to river-linking from Maharashtra was approved,” Mr Khadse said. Ms Bharti has given her consent to the draft PPR for the proposals. We have prepared PPR for all the 18 projects related to inter-linking of rivers,” he informed the House. The projects sanctioned to move ahead are: 1. Damanganga to Pinjal for Mumbai, 2. Vainganga to Nalganga, which will connect Buldhana and Bhandara in Vidarbha region, 3. Upper Krishna to Bhima basin, 4. Upper Ghat to Godavari basin, 5. Upper Vaitarna to Godavari basin, 6. Upper Konkan to Godavari basin, 7. Middle Konkan to Bhima basin, 8. Koyna to Mumbai city, 9. Kolhapur-Sangli-Sangola canal to rivers, 10. Nar-Par to Girna river, 11. Narmada to Tapi basin, 12. Hariya Ghuti to Tapi basin, 13. Jigaon to Tapi, 14. Vaitarana to Manjra and four others.
