The singular success of a Black man or woman (i.e. Oprah, or Tiger Woods, or President Obama) is never a valid argument against the existence of racism. When he made comments that disparaged Baptists for their outpacing Presbyterians in the Frontier days (because Presbyterians insisted solely on a learned clergy), I felt a similar uneasiness as I had in Rocky Mount, NC. Though I agreed that jackleg preachers are dangerous, I felt uncomfortable being one of a handful of Baptists amidst a bunch of Presbyterians.
