18 year old, 9.5 hand bay clown-faced pony needs a new home: Kady Kay (AKA: Ladybug) was supposed to be a former lead line pony for a kids camp, so it seemed like a perfect fit for my son who is just beginning to learn to ride. Kady is an 18 year old approximate 9.5 hand bay pony who looks to have shetland and some welsh in her lineage. She has the rare clown markings - that means she has white washed out coloring around her head. She is broke to ride and the previous owner showed me some pictures and told me her son rode her. We have not put a saddle on her since we got her in the spring. We put about 75 pounds on her after we got her but the winter is taking some of that weight off because I cant afford to feed her like she needs. She needs her teeth floated and her shots. Kady is great with other horses and has really taken up with the gelding we have. She prefers the company of other horses to humans. The problem we have is that she does not like to be touched at all. We have had to put a catch rope on her and leave the halter on her all the time - which I hate! She wont come near my son, even if he is trying to give her a treat and it breaks my heart, because he wants to give her treats and brush her and she will have none of it. She seems to prefer some females but not all females. She doesnt like me or my 14 year old niece but likes our 19 year old neighbor. ?? We thought that although she was skittish - she would come around with regular food and our gentle handling. She has not. I have volunteered with an equine rescue for years and have always been able to handle most horses and gentle them with kindness and understanding. Kady has completely shut us out, she does not want anything to do with humans. She will only get close enough to grab the catch rope when its time to be fed. You cannot get close to her at any other time. We dont stall our horses and in the pasture its impossible to get near her. Now it could be that she is completely different under saddle but since she wont seek out human attention I feel bad in that it would be like we are doing something to her that she is just tolerating not enjoying at all by saddling and riding her. I think she would blossom in the hands of someone who has experience with mustangs. She doesnt have a mean bone in her body and she is not aggressive in any way. She seems to be driven by fear at all times, regardless of how gentle or calm you approach her. I also think she would be a perfect as a companion pet. She is smaller so it is cheaper to feed her than a full size horse and yet she would provide the same companionship to another horse or goat or sheep herd. She is currently in a field of welded wire and hot tape and has never tried to get out even though the power is off most the time. She gets along fine with dogs and cats. I have priced her in a way to try to prevent her from landing in a kill pen or auction. The price is somewhat negotiable and I will consider offers or trades. The last picture is what she looked like when we first brought her home and you can see what she looks like now after gaining much weight. Please call, text, or email Angie to meet her or ask questions.
