18 year old Sarah said she always felt sad for homeless people on the street back in her native city in Guatemala. She never imagined that she would be in their shoes, years later. After her mother passed away when she was 16, Sarah was left with no family - no support system - and spent her last year of high school on friends couches. In a time of deep loneliness and fear, she found her way into a world where survival was her only focus - she was trafficked, she was physically abused, she was ignored by people who used to be her friends, she was ignored by society. She said, People would walk by and look at me like theyre disgusted...or sad...or both...I wish they knew how sad I was too - that this is not who I am, that what they see isnt who I truly am... Eventually she found her way to CHC where she received endless support and undying love and acceptance. Then she got a job. Then an apartment. She made new friends, and established a strong relationship with a CHC mentor. She is renewed, she is hopeful. #HOPELIVES
