18 years ago today I asked Gabriel out on a date, over a strawberry shake and a discussion of Rachmaninoff. And here we are today. But he puts much more eloquently: While having a sandwich for lunch I casually stumbled across this on Spotify and decided to listen to the 6th Suite, which I performed on the marimba (terrible idea) in my conservatory days. I was instantly transported back in time as the music brought forth those feelings of youth, vigor, curiosity, expectation, and the pure joy of sound. I was also courting Jing Li at the time, now my wife of 12 years, whom I met precisely 18 years ago to this day, and with whom Im blessed to have a wonderful son. How radiant it was to have all these wonderful feelings brought back and mixed together through the simple playing of a cello suite. Thank you Lawrence University - Conservatory of Music. Thank you Dane Maxim Richeson. Thank you Randalynn Kaye and Fritz Gloege. Thank you Jing Li. Thank you Mstislav Rostropovich. And thank you Johann Sebastian Bach. In this moment Im one grateful fellow.
