Paul Rosolie wore a carbon fibre armour suit featuring a three-hour supply of oxygen, communication devices and cameras as he was devoured by a 25ft anaconda. The 27-year-old, from New Jersey, poured pigs’ blood over himself and imitated the movements of the snake’s usual prey – wild pigs, deer, large rodents and small alligator-type animals – to get its attention. Animal rights activists accused Mr Rosolie of harming the snake but he insisted the film was made to help raise awareness of dangers to the habitat of anacondas. Facebook screengrab of TV presenter Paul Rosolie prepares to be swallowed alive by a snake for a documentary. ‘I didn’t want to stress [the snake] out too much,’ he said. ‘I wanted to make sure that the suit was smooth and wasn’t going to hurt the snake. ‘Environmentalists, we love to preach to the choir. What I’m trying to do with this is bring in a bunch of people that wouldn’t necessarily know what’s going on in the Amazon.’ He said the suit saved him from being crushed by the 400lb (181kg) snake – but refused to say how he got out of the animal in Peru. He insisted the anaconda was not hurt. Eaten Alive is on the Discovery Channel UK on Friday next week.
