1887 CHILD MURDER : Does anyone know of this horrible story? I am hoping to learn what happened to these women during trial. It looks like a Mary Jane Crowson (B1845) married a John A Cantrell 18 Dec 1866. Mary had a daughter also named Mary Jane Crowson (B1859-1860) I do not know who the elder Marys parents were. It appears the elder Mary was divorced by 1880 and now married to a much older man, a widower named William Bedford Wiseman. They lived in the Speer area of what is now part of Avery County. The census reads: Bedford 79,Mary Wiseman 33, Mary J Crowson 20, William Crowson 6,Bathsheba Crowson 6. Bedford died in 1881. I believe the mother in this story is the younger Mary Jane Crowson and the grandmother the elder. I would be interested to know the outcome of this terrible event.... Thank you !
