【18F-FDG PET/CT predicts survival in patients with inflammatory breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy】 Dr. Yang published her work. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of PET/CT in predicting overall survival in inflammatory breast cancer patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy. She found that the survival was significantly associated with a decrease in tumor SUVmax (activity of radiation labelled sugar activity) and tumor receptor status. Decrease in tumor SUVmax was an independent predictor of survival in patients with inflammatory breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Further investigation with prospective studies is warranted to clarify its role in assessing response and altering therapy based on PET/CT. At MD Anderson, we use PET/CT when a patient presents with a newly diagnosed IBC. This is an agreement of our group to improve the detection of metastatic disease. Our goal is to distinguish those who have a metastatic disease from those who do not have a metastatic disease. Some clinics order CT scans and bone scan, this is an another approach to detect metastatic disease. This is a reasonable approach.
