(19/09/13) Al Qaeda have taken control of the border city of Azaz after routing a rebel militia. Clashes between the Islamic State of Iraq and al Sham and the so-called Northern Storm brigade are said to have erupted on Wednesday. Most reports suggest they began after Al Qaeda attempted to arrest a German doctor visiting the hospital in Azaz. Northern Storm apprently objected, provoking clashes which eventually resulted in Qaeda taking full control of Azaz in what is a major boost to their emerging emirate in Northern Syria. The capture of Azaz fits into a growing pattern whereby ISIS, the long established Iraqi branch of Al Qaeda, is increasingly taking control of rebel held areas of Syria and governing them as their own. bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-24160189
