19 Firefighters died when a fire that started small in SW Chino Valley on Friday exploded today when 45 mph winds had moved it into thousands of acres on fire in Yarnell. Yarnell is unique, a gold prospecting town on top of a mountain ridge with one road in and out. Very popular now as a tourist town and only 35 miles from Prescott. All the firefighters were Prescott firefighters. The terrain there is impossible; extremely steep mountain terrain with huge boulders - completely impossible to get to the flames. The firefighters were seen by a helicopter and only one was able to be pulled out and saved with extremely high winds.
