19 November 1914, Varanasi Dear Sridhar, Your nature will not allow you to be without work. Therefore, you will be better off if you work with the spirit of dedication to The Lord; in other words, for the welfare of the people. You will undoubtedly derive spiritual benefit from it. Work to the best of your ability and try to get the blessings of The Lord. It is extremely difficult to relinquish all activities and contemplate God continually, and it is not possible for everyone. Calm your mind, and engage yourself in the service of human beings as God. It will do you good. Have the firm conviction that you are an instrument and the Lord is the operator -- then there will be no problem. Always be prayerful. Work with your hands and pray to the Lord with your mind that He always remain in your heart and guide you. This will make you free from fear and anxiety. He is omniscient and all-auspicious. He will do what is good for you. So without holding any doubt in the mind, work for the Lord.
