19 September 2013 Thursday Morning Prayer You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8.9 Psalm 71:17-24 O God, from my youth thou hast taught me, and I still proclaim thy wondrous deeds. 18 So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, till I proclaim thy might to all the generations to come.[ Thy power 19 and thy righteousness, O God, reach the high heavens. Thou who hast done great things, O God, who is like thee? 20 Thou who hast made me see many sore troubles wilt revive me again; from the depths of the earth thou wilt bring me up again. 21 Thou wilt increase my honor, and comfort me again. 22 I will also praise thee with the harp for thy faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to thee with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. 23 My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to thee; my soul also, which thou hast rescued. 24 And my tongue will talk of thy righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disgraced who sought to do me hurt. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever. AMEN Lesson 4 For when one says, “I belong to Paul,” and another, “I belong to Apol′los,” are you not merely men?5 What then is Apol′los? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. 6 I planted, Apol′los watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 He who plants and he who waters are equal, and each shall receive his wages according to his labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. 1 Cor. 3:4-15 Collect Almighty God, you call your Church to witness that in Christ we are reconciled to you. Help us so to proclaim the good news of your love, that all who hear it may turn to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Prayer Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds and whose breathe gives life to all the world, hear me. I am small and weak. I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people. Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight the greatest enemy--myself. Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes, so when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit will come to you without shame. Holy God, be our strength and salvation, that we may never be ashamed to praise you for your mighty acts; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN The Grace The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all now and ever more. AMEN.
