19. The (true) religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. Those who (formerly) received the Scripture disagreed among themselves through jealousy only after knowledge came to them. Whoever disbelieves the signs of Allah should know that Allah is swift in reckoning. (The word "din", here rendered "religion", can be possessed of several meanings, including [obedience], [punishment], [nation], and [God-given Law). The word Islam, in turn, can mean "submission" and "obedience", in addition to its more specific reference to the Islamic religion. It denotes inner peace, realized through total sincerity and a life of devotional prayer. As is also suggested in the above verse, is/am means believing in the Oneness of God, which becomes perfect when belief is affirmed in the way of life that has been perfected by the prophet Muhammad, who has brought the final Law from our Creator.)
