1914 The Christmas Truce: On Christmas day this year, 2014 represents the 100th Anniversary of an extraordinary event. A truce was called between the UK and the German Armies. The truce started on Christmas Eve. As soldiers settled into their trenches in the cold and snow, the enemies were just a few hundred yards apart all along the front. The soldiers started to relax and reminisce about their homes, families and loved ones. It is stated that somewhere along the German front, soldiers in the trenches started to sing Silent Night in German. The UK soldiers joined in, singing in English. For the rest of the night, the only sound on the battlefield was the two armies joined in Christmas carol after Christmas carol. Christmas morning brought the quietness they all had left behind in their homes. Soldiers from both trenches then ventured and slowly started to mingle with the enemy. Soon, Then werent two opposing sides, but just men celebrating Christmas together, sharing gifts, food and even played soccer together. May we not forget this example, that peace can be found found and shared. May your Christmas, Yule, Hanukkah or whatever, bring you peace and happiness this holiday season. Lest we not forget
