1922 pitch for the subdivision of Tarzana with a different appeal - TopicsExpress

1922 pitch for the subdivision of Tarzana with a different appeal than other Valley colonies. Edgar Rice Burroughs (writer) promised the freedom of nonconformity, as long as you conformed with him. He wanted a colony of artists, no matter what their medium was. Potential buyers had to apply to Burroughs for his approval. He dropped the ad in 1923 because the tone turned buyers off. In need of money, he sold 120 acres to assist in establishing El Caballero Country Club. In 1926 he built a 7 room English style cottage at 5046 Mecca Ave, back on his old ranch at the foot of the knoll where his former hacienda stood.
