1965--GUY becomes GOVERNOR--(Mandan News) The first major social event of the 1965 political season, the inaugural banquet honoring victorious state Democrats, drew 850 persons to the $20- a- plate meal at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Bismarck. The following day, Jan. 6, Chief Justice Thomas J. Burke of the North Dakota Supreme Court administered the oath of office to Gov. William L. Guy who then delivered his Message to the Legislature in a joint session of the House and Senate in the House Chamber of the State Capitol.The speech was praised with jubilant enthusiasm from Democrats and cautious criticism from Republicans.
