1969 - Music Music Music. My whole world revolved around it now. I remember it being one of my most exciting years for the music I had loved and the music I was starting to love. In many ways it was a pivotal time for the established artists as the second wave of the hippie generation started to blossom. I had graduated Jr. High School in the Spring and was starting High School in the Fall, and our musical tastes were choosing to buy and listen to groups who had a heavier even more psychedelic sound. Hence the term Heavy Metal was born. Of course we already had Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, the Who, The Doors, and The Stones, but there was a new comer that was catching fire now being spread by word of mouth. A group no one had heard of before. A group with a sound like no other. That group was Led Zeppelin. Even the name freaked out my mind and perplexed my thoughts. They had already released their second album by the time I had heard of them. The second the needle hit the grooves I was hooked. That haunting, screamingly impossible voice. Those bluesy soulful guitars with molten layers of reverb and Echo made my soul ache and yearn for more. The powerful drums, not to be undone by the equally haunting counter melodies created by none other than a bass player who also played the keys and woodwinds was revolutionary. There were four albums released that year that impacted my life more than any other record I had ever heard or had ever owned. Those were, The Beatles Abby Road, Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin II, and King Crimson In The Court Of The Crimson King. But still there were so many great artists and music to choose from out there. Keeping in mind these were songs that inspired and influenced me the most in my life. So kick back, fire up a fat one, put on your big ears, and listen to my 69! Welcome to Marcies world.
