1969 is a very historical year in Uganda,Milton Obote was at his highest after he had successfully abrogated the Constitution and abolished Kingdoms and declared Uganda a single Party State...still by1969 Obote had fallen out with most of his political friends and arrested many of them including the Vice President. AND It was this same year a Pope ever visited Uganda...Pope Paul VI came to Uganda in August to Open the Namugongo Martys Basilica.By the grace of The Lord in the same year I was born.Sadly in the same year Kabaka Edward Walugembe Muteesa passed on while in exile in London. In February 1993 the most travelled Pope ever John Paul II visited Uganda and his main reason was to reach Uganda and Namugongo in Particular the Religious Country that forms one of the Pillars of the Catholic Church faith in Africa...The Uganda Martys. In the same year Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi was coronated the king of Buganda,I was a young girl then fresh from School....AND president Museveni had been ranked among the new bred of African leaders and a beacon of Africa. And it is with great honor and pleasure that we receive the news of our Holy Father Pope Francis confirmed decision to visit Uganda this year,he finds me a mature Woman and a Member of Parliament . Pope Francis whose major mission of the visit is to celebrate the 50 years of the canonization of the uganda Martys comes at a time when the political terrain in the Country looks more similar to that of 1969...,many people especially non Catholics ask wether the Popes visit is an endorsement of the regime and an approval of what its doing but as Catholic I say a big NO...unlike earthly leaders the Pope in most cases visit the vulnerable either Religiously,Politically, Economically or Socially.....Welcome our Holy Father we look forward to seeing you.
