1987 After Midnight Eric Clapton by the time of this release, I had given up on Clapton as a record-maker and someone who had any fire left...and since this, with very few exceptions, he made me stand by my psoition - for some reason he went MOR in the 70s and reached his nadir by doing an LP with Phil Freakin Collins - so this astonishing cover of his own 1970, which was rather thin by my taste, hit me like a punch - not only did someone seemingly light a fire under him, his incredibly hot slide-guitar work showed us/me why he was considered a Guitar God before about 1976 - its almost as if he was suddenly jealous of Stevie Ray Vaughan and proved he could keep up with him - oh, he can play...just wish hed do it more often - this is remarkable https://youtube/watch?v=szRNqPBmqDw
