1989: I was still a child, 14 to be precise And life was easy, worries were few I seldom would think twice Because at 14 nothing you do Or say, or where you go. Cant be undone, unwritten But how little did I know. For 1989 was going to change For me my entire perspective. Of life, of mortality, of good and bad, And of those we had elected. My mate told me two days before, Hed got a ticket for the game. I remember being chuffed for him but jealous just the same. Adam was a lad with whom Id played football for years I never dreamed for him Id shed So many painful tears. But when the gate was opened To the pen were my mate stood. His little frame stood little chance Against the human flood. I watched events at Hillsborough On TV that afternoon And hoped that theyd all go home safe And Id see my mate again soon But sadly for the 96 This wish was not to be And those responsible have dodged justice For a quarter of a century So today, 25 years on I wear a liver bird with pride Knowing that the sun, the police, And the establishment all lied Knowing that the public now All also know THE TRUTH There is no doubt, no reason For anyone to be aloof So red or blue, scouse or manc From the south or from the north Join us in our call for justice And let the the families go forth Knowing those responsible Are eventually made Accountable for their mistakes At the fans feet they once laid. So to Adam, the 96 Youll never walk alone. Rest in peace mate, all of you Theyre cover has been blown.
