1991 Just 8 years before the BBC article attached came out, European Activist offices in the City of Messina Italy (the city of the Conference of Messina of 1955) saw their offices communications disrupted and other absolutely unacceptable interferences even of violent nature while organizing a cultural exchange with emerging Asian economies in order to facilitate touristic and trade growth in the much depressed South of Italy. When the European Civil Society activists protested the violation of their civil rights and rights of assembly Italian authorities refused to open an investigation and declared the activists (delusional) having to face torture, humiliation and threats to the security of their families if they did not keep quiet! Now that was not Soviet Russia in Stalinist Soviet Union purges time, it was the European Community in the city that saw the EU integration process start. Now as EU citizens we hope that our institutions once and for all address this issues differently from what happened after the investigation by Mr. Cohelo and the EU parliament more than a decade ago......that is
