©1996 By Johnny Ray **This is another excerpt from issue 3 of The DarkRose Journal-ReVamped.** *This prose was written by my husband. Many of you knew him as Devoted Blood...my truly devoted blood. Even though all his prose was written about me and for me (hundreds upon hundreds, :-) ), he refuses to believe that he is a talented poet...indeed he is, and that is not my bias speaking. Please enjoy the raw darkness that is Johnny Ray.* Sympathy Symphony As if shipwrecked by Sirens Song, with blade in hand one explores local realms of cold stone markers, abandon battlements, guardians to a forbidden and forgotten domain. Shamefully displayed-etched epitaphs. Lifes script in but few cliche words, numerical dates closer together than expected. Nights Arietta continues, reaching within where none may hide. Exposing itself, a lost and frayed shroud drifts through membranous mist. Blood of the moon falls, flows across on pearls skin with ebon tresses. Possessing elegance of another era she tosses longing glances, a regard-ant pose; flees to an offered sanctuary bold night maidens standing vigil, their marble wings strong and spread wide. Unable to look away the only choice is to follow. Outcast and exiled from uncaring words dark entities seek solace, somewhere to belong if only for a short while. Dance with me and be free tonight, a careless tango; with the last shard of this broken soul. Rare smiles ease sombre features... Unconfessed secrets spill forth, emotional nourishment for the unwanted; an easing of the burn from unshed tears. A night of self-preservation, simple existence; redemption is found in an unfelt embrace. Dawns callous rose blooms, Still warm from touch an unstained blade shines reflected crimson across a faded and aged mourners veil, empty, but full of promise and regret. ~Johnny Ray
