1998 TRIUMPH TROPHY 1200 FOR SALE **THIS WEEKEND ONLY $3500** Go to Photos > Albums > 1998 Triumph Trophy 1200 FOR SALE (Link at bottom of listing) Very low miles for year and a tourer. 22,533. I have owned the machine since mid-last year, when it had aprox.17,900mi. I put the additional 4500 miles on the bike during a month of travel for business last fall (2013). I bought the bike specifically for the travel, and thought I would likely keep it.. but I found a collectable machine I am raising money for, and looking for a quick sale… hence the low price! Prior to that trip (at aprox. 18,000mi), the machine was *completely* and meticulously gone thru in my motorcycle shop. The valves had been done on schedule at 15k miles, but I checked the valve clearances anyway and no adjustment was required on any of them. Every single nut and bolt and wire was looked at and attended to. I lubricated all of the locks and cables, and cleaned and dielectric-greased all the electrical connectors. We cleaned everything in detail, and greased and/or lactated every relevant nut and bolt. I also detail cleaned the entire machine. I greased and adjusted the headset and swing arm bearings. I did this knowing the machine needed to be trouble free for 5000+ miles for my trip(s) and, regardless I do this on every machine that is new to me. At under 18k miles, this machine really had only been fully broken in for about 3000 miles. These engines go *forever* and are incredibly reliable. At that time, it also had; - New tires (F&R) - Bridgestone Sport Tourers ($350+install, $425) Balanced with DynaBeads ($30, but great!) - New o-ring chain and sprockets (F&R) ($200) - New Brake pads (F&R) and rotor inspection / measurement ($110) - Carbs gone thru, inspected, adjusted and cleaned. - New fuel lines and filers were installed ($15) - New 20w50 GTX oil, and oil filter ($30) - New brake fluid (bike has all branded SS brake lines), bled correctly. - New K&N air filter ($65) (included with the sale is an *extra*, new K&N ($65) as well. - New NOLOGY Pro-Fire Coils ($150ea) - New hi-output spark plug wires and plug caps ($45) - New NGK platinum spark plugs, (gapped and indexed correctly) - New battery ($75) - I also installed 3 electrical tethers. One is a fused 12v cigarette lighter under the seat at the rear. One is a fused charging battery tender pigtail under the seat that can be pulled out and to the side for battery charging. One is run to the handlebars and was used to power a heated vest and a powered tank bag and GPS. - Also, I did a total service and rebuild to the petcock ($25 kit), and adjusted it so that should it ever fail, it has a safety in the prime position that will deliver fuel. These petcocks (Mikuni) are known to be a bit glitchy unless serviced etc. Not this one! - A new, used SS exhaust pipe for the RHS. I believe I still have the old one if you want it. It had some rust starting internally.. and so I just decided to take care of it by buying a new one ($150) The total service (labor alone) was over 10 hours which would be a $1000+ service in my shop. The parts above are over $1100 + as well. At that time, I bought a new Corbin seat for the machine ($350). It is not the typical rock hard Corbin, has the carbon fiber texture on the seating panels and a durable texture on the transitional panels and front nose. It also takes the backrest for the passenger, which can be bought from Corbin (not included). So, it only has 4500 miles on it and is perfect. The sale also includes two (2) stoke seats in fair and average condition. There is currently a Clearview brand tall windscreen on the machine. While I do not necessarily, personally find it good looking… it functions excellently… I would even say *flawlessly*. It is a fantastic windscreen. I am right at 6 feet tall, and it directs air and rain (really effective) right around me. No buffeting, no handling effects. Its really pretty flawless… which I was totally surprised by. It also has the optional added height and vents via special order. It is the clear option, rather than the light smoke tint. The cost was $250 not including shipping. Also included… is a standard height stock windshield.. the low shield. So, if the tall one does not suit you, you can sell the tall Clearview and use this one, and come out ahead. The machine includes a full set of factory luggage… panniers and top case. IF you can find these, they go for about $1000-1200 for a used set. I have seen them go for $1500. The top case especially, will be half that value. Rear rack for top case, etc. recently re-powder coated in a durable texture black, so it looks very good without the top case on (I only used it for the long trips). The panniers are missing their Triumph logo decals on the sides, but those are available for $4-5 each from any Triumph dealer. The machine, before I bought it, was stored in a NYC public garage and the bags have some scuffs and scratches, but no real damage, and I have not touched up or polished out the scratches. I can tell they could most all be eliminated with little effort by buffing. Additional Included Extras : - A new, spare K&N air filter - A new extra air box with new stock filter. These are $100 shipped. You can ONLY buy a new filter by buying an entire air box from Triumph. BUT… you will have this air box, the extra K&N and the installed air box with new K&N. With regular cleaning and prop re-oil.. you will never buy another filter even if the machine gets 250k miles or more. - A couple bags of rubber parts… caps, oil filter o-ring, foot shift rubber, heim-joint rubber boot, etc. Probably $25 worth of stuff. - An extra CDI/ Ignition module! Used, these go for $250-300. New, they are about $600! I bought an extra, because when I get long distance tourers… typically I like to have a spare of the computers, etc so I do not ever have to worry about getting stranded in the event of their failure or down time. While I would never expect these to fail on the Triumph… I know it can happen if you service the machine incorrectly and short out the unit… so I covered my bets, so to speak. Look up the specs on this machine if you do not know them already… 500lbs, 110hp, 6.6 gallon tank, bulletproof. The bike *looks* big but it really is a light and nimble sport tourer. Emphasis on Sport. This bike is very fast for what it is. Its quarter mile specs are Ive owned many… and I believe these bikes to be the *best* value for the money in that segment. I consider it one of the best, regardless of price. Ive found a machine that I want to add as a permanent addition to my bikes, and would prefer to move this machine quickly. FOR THIS WEEKEND ONLY, Im offering this bike for a quick cash sale at $3500, WITH all the additional items! If it does not sell this weekend, it will be listed for $4000 or more via other means, which I believe to be its market value. We have already fully detail cleaned and gone over he motorcycle in anticipating of the sale. The photos were taken today, this evening, Friday the 7th. The machine has a clear title and no liens / loans to satisfy. I can provide bill of sale and any and all necessary documentation, etc. The machine can be seen and inspected at nearly any time at my shop in downtown Louisville. It can be test ridden with a motorcycle license and a deposit. I am willing to discuss and work with interested parties.
