1On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus mother was there, 2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3When the wine was gone, Jesus mother said to him, They have no more wine. 4Dear woman, why do you involve me? Jesus replied. My time has not yet come. 5His mother said to the servants, Do whatever he tells you. 6Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to the servants, Fill the jars with water; so they filled them to the brim. 8Then he told them, Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet. They did so, 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now. 11This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.John 2:1-11 (NIV) Miracle #1 One of the things I love to do is look at the miracles of Jesus. For me, it helps to strengthen my faith and what I believe in. This miracle took place at a wedding. An important thing to realize is that this miracle was done in public and was seen and known by all who attended. It was the first recorded miracle that Jesus performed. Although there are many lessons we can learn from this passage, we will zero in on just a couple. One is that at this wedding there was a problem of need, a real need. They had just run out of wine. Although Mary didnt know how Jesus was going to solve the problem, she knew where to go to get the problem solved and that was Jesus. When we have problems, we need to turn them over to Jesus and allow Him to solve them the way that Jesus thinks is best. The second thing we can learn is that Jesus demonstrated His power over natural things by turning water into wine. The benefit was not only the miracle itself, but the effects of the miracle. The biggest being that the disciples put their faith in Jesus. Father, thank You that You care for us. Help us to always turn to You no matter what our need(s) may be. We pray this in Jesus name.
