1ST SUNDAY OF ADVENT, YEAR B [30/11/2014] CHURCH NEW YEAR!!!. WATCH THEREFORE, LEST HE COME SUDDENLY AND FIND YOU ASLEEP (MARK 13:35,36) Having completed a years cycle of the Churchs calendar dear friend, today we return to the beginning of a new Liturgical year -the season of Advent. Advent is a period when the Church recalls for her children the stronger need for them to prepare well for the reception of the Messiah. This reception is formally celebrated at Christmas each year. Beginning this years advent, the readings • invites us to know that God is our redeemer and father whose connection we have lost through sin. And so we pray God with Isaiah and the psalmist that he may have pity on our sinful selves and return to save us. (Isaiah 63:16b-17,19b, 64:2b-7) (Psalms 80(79):2-3,15-16,18-19). • urges us to be vigilant that the redeemer whom we await does not again meet us unprepared (Mark 13:33-37). • Offers us, through the words of St Paul, an assurance of what riches we have in Christ. Going from these dear friends, we are moved to realize the bent from which our human problems emanated and where lies the solution. ▪ True, it was through our sins that we lost the restoration which Christ came to guarantee us following mans initial fall in Adam and Eve. ▪ Also true is the fact that in Christs return the restoration that we seek is assured. ▪ And we have a strong hope of his return for he himself, even before his departure promised same. What remains then is for us to amend our ways, distance ourselves from all forms of life that are sinful to God and in strong vigilance patiently await the second coming. This second coming is annually celebrated at Christmas unless we earnestly prepare for it by turning away from our sins its benefits would never find a fulfilment in us. Therefore, let us resolve to distance ourselves from sin and to live the life of virtue holding firmly onto Christ that he may enrich us once again with eternal glory in his return. We pray God this day for the grace to step away from sin and to hold firmly to true Christian ways of life that in so doing our spiritual connection with Christ would forever remain firm and the salvation he handed unto humanity in his birth may be realized in us. Amen. Happy Sunday my pals!!! And Happy New year in the church calendar!!!
