2,000 coop members, celebrates Cooperative Month in Cavite TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite, Oct. 17 (PIA) --More than 2,000 cooperative members from the different cities and municipalities in the province flocked to the provincial gymnasium recently to join the 2013 Cavite cooperative month celebration. Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region IV regional director Salvador V. Valeroso, in his message, cited CDA’s strategies that include membership expansion, increase in capital to generate employment, and livelihood trainings, among others. Gov. Jonvic Remulla emphasized the need to boost the cooperative movement not only in cities and municipalities but down to every barangay especially in light of the rapidly growing population in the province. The governor expressed gratitude to cooperative members’ attendance to the event and reiterated his support to cooperative development programs as a primary contributor to Cavite’s progress. Organized by the provincial government thru the Provincial Cooperative, Livelihood and Entrepreneurial Development Office (PCLEDO) in cooperation with CDA IV, this year’s theme “Cooperative Paves the Way for Inclusive Growth” puts emphasis on people’s active participation in the cooperative movement to achieve genuine progress. The celebration included trade fair and exhibit showcasing different Cavite products, a bloodletting activity which collected a total of 44 bags of blood, raffle draws, CO-OPlympics with various fun games and contests. The event also gave recognition to outstanding cooperatives in the province as well as the cooperative council with the most number of members present in uniform which was won by the City of Imus. There are 299 registered cooperatives in Cavite with total assets of P2.15 billion, P0.985 billion values of products sold, and employs 1,682 workers. (Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite/PICAD)
