2:140. Do you (O Jews and the Christians!) say that Abraham, - TopicsExpress

2:140. Do you (O Jews and the Christians!) say that Abraham, Ismâîl, Isaac, Jacob and his children were Jews or Christians? Say, ‘Have you then greater knowledge or (is it) Allâh (Who knows better)?’ And who is more unjust than he who conceals the testimony he has from Allâh. And Allâh is not at all unaware of what you do.’ 2:138. (Assume) the hues (and the attributes) of Allâh! And who is fairer than Allâh’s hues (and attributes)? We are His worshippers ever. صِبْغَةَ اللَّهِ ۖ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ مِنَ اللَّهِ صِبْغَةً ۖ وَنَحْنُ لَهُ عَابِدُونَ 2:138SibghatÒ¬Ju is derived from SabaghaäJäu and means to dye, colour, baptize, dip, immerse, assume the attribute, hue, mode, mature, code of law or religion. In the Holy Qur’ân (2:138) the attributes of Allâh and His code of law is called Sibghah AllâhA ɬJêu. This word has been used here as a hint to Christians that the baptism with water does not change a person. It is Takhalluq-bi-Akhlâq ¶ÝaABI µé¼… - the adoption of God’s attributes and the broad principle of faith that brings about real change in the mind and character. It is through this Islamic “baptism” that a new birth takes place. According to Arabic usage, on occasions when it is intended strongly to induce a person to do a certain thing, the verb is omitted, as in 2:138 and only the object is mentioned. Therefore in the translation of that verse, one must add a verb such as KhudhûAËhåa assume or adopt. (Lisân; Tâj; Râghib; Zamakhsharî; LL). Let's Remake the World! Thats not Islam. Thats not our religion. That was a bad development. It spoiled the life of the Muslim. We are not to work to build a nation, we are to work to build Islamic life. We want a suitable place for that life, so we have to influence and contribute to the good of a nation so that we will have better circumstances for that life. He made Nigeria, Niger and Libya. There was no such thing as a Libyan nation before the European went to Africa and made Libya. Here they have a United States, not a continent of a whole lot of nations. The Africans ought to take a lesson, at least from that reality. They are divided into many states on their continent. The power holders have a United States. They wont allow another nation to come up within their nation. They will not allow their United States to be broken up into other nations. The war between the states settled that question forever. No, they said, were not going to have 13 states separate from the rest of the states, or any Southern states separate from the rest of the states. And if you are in a situation where you cannot get respect, your influence is going to grow and grow and grow and eventually topple those people. Not by your direct action but just by the fact that you are living in accord with your religion, which is in accord with the best thats in accord with the best possible for all people. So they recognize it. Their nature recognizes it. Their good sense recognizes it, and they will accommodate your life in their society. There is no problem for Muslim life in America. We made the problems for ourselves, by giving the wrong image of this religion. > > >The Individual Is The Key > > >National concern and the success of the individual. Why have we put it in this kind of language? Why the success of the individual? Simply because individual success is the key. We have made the mistake of trying to bring an organization forward. Thats akin to nationalism. In trying to bring an organization forward, you put all of your work and interests into building an organization. That tendency will eventually take away the just treatment that should be coming to that individual. We have promoted the collective life in the wrong way. The way to promote the collective life is to promote the individual life in the collective body. > > >We Made A Mistake > > >We — I mean myself and those I have been associated with — made the mistake of trying to promote the collective life and push an organization forward. Thats why Allah says do not let the injury that you have suffered from another people cause you to deviate from doing justice. > > >Justice is always top priority. Do not allow your hatred for another people — because of their dealings with you — cause you to swerve from justice. Surah An-Nahl)...at is hidden in peoples hearts as well as what is apparent. He will reward or punish everyone for their deeds on the Day of Resurrection. If their deeds are good then they will be rewarded, 18. And if you would try to count the favors of Allah, you would never be able to count them. Truly, Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.) Worship is Allahs Right | | | | Then Allah tells us of His greatness, and that worship should be directed to Him alone, not to any of the idols which do not create but are rather themselves created. Thus He says﴿أَفَمَن يَخْلُقُ كَمَن لاَّ يَخْلُقُ أَفَلا تَذَكَّرُونَ ﴾(Is then He, Who creates, the same as one who does not create Will you not then reflect)(16:17). Then He shows His servants some of the many blessings He granted for them, and the many kinds of things that He has done for them. He says;﴿وَإِن تَعُدُّواْ نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ لاَ تُحْصُوهَآ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ﴾(And if you would try to count the favors of Allah, you would never be able to count them. Truly, Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.) (16:18) meaning that He pardons and forgives them. If He were to ask you to thank Him for all of His blessings, you would not be able to do so, and if He were to command you to do so, you would be incapable of it. If He punishes you, He is never unjust in His punishment, but He is Forgiving and Most Merciful, He forgives much and rewards for little. Ibn Jarir said: It means that Allah is Forgiving when you fail to thank Him properly, if you repent and turn to Him in obedience, and strive to do that which pleases Him. He is Merciful to you and does not punish you if you turn to Him and repent.﴿وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ - وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ لاَ يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْئًا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ - أَمْوتٌ غَيْرُ أَحْيَآءٍ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ أَيَّانَ يُبْعَثُونَ ﴾ | Reply to sender . Suddenly I felt somebody taking hold of my shoulder and found out that he was Ali bin Abi Talib. Ali invoked Allahs Mercy for Umar and said, O Umar! You have not left behind you a person whose deeds I like to imitate and meet Allah with more than I like your deeds. By Allah! I always thought that Allah would keep you with your two companions, for very often I used to hear the Prophet saying, I, Abu Bakr and Umar went (somewhere); I, Abu Bakr and Umar entered (somewhere); and I, Abu Bakr and Umar went out.' Bukhari :: Book 4 :: Volume 55 :: Hadith 549 Narrated Abdullah:Allah's Apostle, the true and truly inspired said, (as regards your creation), every one of you is collected in the womb of his mother for the first forty days, and then he becomes a clot for an other forty days, and then a piece of flesh for an other forty days. Then Allah sends an angel to write four words: He writes his deeds, time of his death, means of his livelihood, and whether he will be wretched or blessed (in religion). Then the soul is breathed into his body. So a man may do deeds characteristic of the people of the (Hell) Fire, so much so that there is only the distance of a cubit between him and it, and then what has been written (by the angel) surpasses, and so he starts doing deeds characteristic of the people of Paradise and enters Paradise. Similarly, a person may do deeds characteristic of the people of Paradise, so much so that there is only the distance of a cubit between him and it, and then what has been written (by the angel) surpasses, and he starts doing deeds of the people of the (Hell) Fire and enters the (Hell) Fire. | Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 1 :: Hadith 1 Narrated Umar bin Al-Khattab:I heard Allahs Apostle saying, The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for. Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 2 :: Hadith 11 Narrated Abdullah bin Amr:A man asked the Prophet , What sort of deeds or (what qualities of) Islam are good? The Prophet replied, To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not Know (See Hadith No. 27). Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 3 :: Hadith 90 Narrated Abu Masud Al-Ansari:Once a man said to Allahs Apostle O Allahs Apostle! I may not attend the (compulsory congregational) prayer because so and so (the Imam) prolongs the prayer when he leads us for it. The narrator added: I never saw the Prophet more furious in giving advice than he was on that day. The Prophet said, O people! Some of you make others dislike good deeds (the prayers). So whoever leads the people in prayer should shorten it because among them there are the sick the weak and the needy (having some jobs to do). Bukhari :: Book 3 :: Volume 43 :: Hadith 629 Narrated Abu Huraira:Allah's Apostle said, Whoever has oppressed another person concerning his reputation or anything else, he should beg him to forgive him before the Day of Resurrection when there will be no money (to compensate for wrong deeds), but if he has good deeds, those good deeds will be taken from him according to his oppression which he has done, and if he has no good deeds, the sins of the oppressed person will be loaded on him. And thus have We made you a nation exalted and justly balanced so that you may be a guiding example for all people (by carrying to them what you have learnt about Islam), and this perfect Messenger (of God) may be a guiding example for you. And We did not make that which you would have to be the Qiblah but that We might distinguish him who follows the Messenger from him who turns upon his heels. And this (change of Qiblah) is indeed a hard (test) except for those whom Allâh has guided aright. It was not Allâh’s purpose that your faith and your worship should go in vain. Surely, Allâh is Compassionate and Ever Merciful to the people. 2:143The companions of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and his right followers are called here Ummatun WustâBñmË Òè¿C, meaning the middlemost and exalted community, a community that keeps an equitable balance between extremes (Lisân). While at Makkah the Prophet used to pray before the southern wall of the Ka’bah, facing north so as to face both the Ka’bah and Jerusalem. In Madinah he continued to pray northwards in the direction of Jerusalem. Sixteen months after his arrival at Madînah the verses 142-150 of this chapter were revealed. These verses established the Ka’bah at Makkah as the Qiblah – the only direction of ritual Prayer. The present and the following verses give reason for that. The first reason given is to “distinguish him who follows the Messenger from him who turns upon his heels”إِلَّالِنَعْلَمَ مَن يَتَّبِعُ الرَّسُولَ مِمَّن يَنقَلِبُ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيْهِ . Na’lamaÁ¼¨Ã means here ‘we might distinguish’ and not ‘so that We know’. Allah is al-’Alim - the All-Knowing, so He stands in no need of knowing. The root of Na’lamaÁ¼¨Ã is ’AlimaÁ¼§ and ’IlmÁ¼§ is knowledge. However, when it is followed by the particle min Å¿, as here,it means distinguishing one thing from the other (Bahar). Then He says: “And this (change of Qiblah) is indeed a hardship except for those whom Allâh has guided aright”. Why should one walk around some stones incapable of perceiving his secrets and understanding his movements? Even Caliph Umar recognised this, and wanted to crush the black stone (Hajr Aswad), but then he kissed it in order to follow the Holy Prophet’s example. Then Allah gives another reason for assigning Ka’bah as Qiblah. He says: “It was not Allâhs purpose that your faith and your worship should go in vain” وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ. So He made Bayt al-’Atîqبِالْبَيْتِ الْعَتِيقِ the ancient house (22:29) standing in the mother of cities –Umm al-Qurâ’أُمَّ الْقُرَىٰ (6:92), the ‘navel of the earth’ (Ibn Abbas) and ‘zero point in the space’ (Ibn Arabi), His own house where the worshipper can look at it ‘without veil’. He made it the heart of existence (qalb al-Wajud). The blind eye of a fallen human cannot perceive the secrets behind the circumbulations. Its history is older than all histories and its place precedes all geography and it contains some sublime untold Divine secrets. In choosing this pile of stone as a place for His house and designating it as the place where His creatures should direct their faces in their prayers—a goal of their long march in this world—Allah instituted a decree for mankind and raised these stones in dignity for His own house for the purpose that our faith and our worship should not go in vain. The blind eye of a fallen human cannot perceive the secrets behind its circumambulations. 2:163. And your God is One God, there is no other, cannot be and will never be one worthy of worship but He, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful. وَإِلَـٰهُكُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۖ لَّا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الرَّحْمَـٰنُ الرَّحِيمُ 2:163 In the statement: “And your God is One God, there is no other, cannot be and will never be One worthy of worship but He” the word IlâhaÉ{»G is in its infinitive noun, or the basic form of the verb (masdarifv¿ or Jumlah IsmiahÉÎÀmG ɼš), expressing verbal motion and containing all the three tenses of the past, present and the future, without limitations of time, space or circumstances. In English grammar there is no sentence without a verb, but in Arabic this is possible. Such sentences without a verb are called Jumlah IsmiahÉÎÀmG ɼš. The advantage of such sentences is that they are not controlled by the present, past or future tense. They are highly appropriate for describing a permanent attribute of a thing or a person. Thus the words express the infinity of the Deity in the past, the present and the future. The words ÜG É{»G Ü are often simply translated as “There is no God but He”; this is not sufficient (Mughnî).
